The main communication system will be through Satcom and where
applicable through mobile phones.
Satcom and Mobile Phones
Adèle has one Inmarsat F system, capable of
voice and data transmission (64 kb). It also has an Iridium sat
phone for voice transmission. The telephone lines are connected
to the telephone exchange and the data lines to fax and computers.
There is also one Inmarsat C connected
to the captain’s
computer. This unit is GMDSS compliant and has a GPS module.
Its main purpose is to automatically send safety and distress
messages (and receive them), and to automatically give the yachts
position in distress situations and to the owner’s
land based office.
Most guests and crew will probably have and bring their own
mobile phones. Adèle has also two black box mobile
phones for voice and data with antennas at the masts.
A telephone exchange is installed with telephones in each cabin
and the different saloons, deckhouses, crew mess etc. There are
also cordless telephones in the deckhouses for use on deck. The
telephone system works as an intercom system as well. The Satcom
phones and mobile phones are connected to the telephone system.
Adèle has also a loud hailer system controlled
from the steering cockpit or main deckhouse and with 60W speakers
directed both fore and aft mast. There are also talk-back units
installed at the mast and the anchor control units.
VHF
1 Skanti VHF with DSC (Digital Selective
Calling) class A is installed with handsets at deckhouse,
captain’s
office and crew mess.
1 Skanti VHF with DSC class D as backup
is installed with handsets at main deckhouse, library
and aft deckhouse (mainly for communication with owner’s
party).
1 Simrad VHF unit with DSC and loud hailer system is installed
in deck house and both steering consoles.
All VHF units are connected to GPS to provide position automatically
at distress calls.
6 portable VHF and UHF (combined) are
stored in a cupboard in the deckhouse mounted in charger
stands. Those are normally carried by the crew for communication
on deck, upt to the crow’s
nest and with the tenders during sailing and different manoeuvres.
In addition, there are 3 watertight VHF’s for emergency
purposes.
The two large tenders have built in VHF and also paging units
that can be activated from Adèle.
SSB
One Skanti radiotelephone 250 W with
DSC and GPS connection is installed for automatic distress
calls and for communication with other yachts. The
main unit is placed in the main deckhouse with repeater
in captain’s
office.
